I chose to go to the event, " Traveling Mercies in Afghanistan, Kenya, Haiti and Mexico." Right when I walked in the room and sat down a powerpoint was playing. Displaying pictures of young children living in poverty, and many beautiful places. The main speaker shared many of his stories to us all.
This guy has traveled all over the world helping many children. The one that stuck out in my mind was when he helped a small part of a town get access to clean, fresh, water. Children living in these areas are now much healthier than before because of these water systems.
Listening to this guy speak made me realize how good of a life we have here in the U.S. I can't ever imagine not having clean, fresh water to drink every day. I don't know what I would do. I started thinking how many of us take things for advantage, and we shouldnt, we have a great life that many dream of having.
Those really are great points to think about. All the things we take advantage of...makes me think of how lucky I am!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure listening to the speakers really put things into perspective for you. I think sometimes we, as Americans take quite a bit for granted.
ReplyDeleteIt really is amazing all the things we take advantage of because we've never had to go without here. It really is a good experience to learn about other places and how people there sometimes have to live. It really makes you appreciate what you have which is something that shouldn't be forgotten, even though we're all guilty of it at different times.
ReplyDeleteI'm drinking a bottle of water right now and I cannot think of not having such a thing as fresh drinking water. crazy
ReplyDeleteI went to an event that reminds me a lot of this! It is so crazy to think about how unfortunate people are out there and we don't even realize it!
ReplyDeleteThis is really interesting and one I haven't read about yet. I like how you described it. I was able to picture what was happening without being there.
ReplyDeleteThis kinda thing always opens your eyes as to what we really take advantage of. Its a shock to me.
ReplyDeletewow this guy sounds so generous. good post
ReplyDeleteIts easy to forget how good we have things here compared to other places around the world.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes forget how lucky I am to live in a country where possibilities are endless unlike some of the third world countries. Great post
